State Requirements
STATE OF FLORIDA CONTINUING EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
“14 hours board-approved continuing education is required each biennium prior to the renewal period for both certified and registered contractors. At least 1 hour must deal with workplace safety, 1 hour on the subject of worker’s compensation, 1 hour on the subject of business practices, 1 hour on the subject of laws and rules and 1 hour on Florida Building Code advanced modules.
A person who holds more than one certificate or registration issued by the board is required to complete the continuing education requirements only once during each biennial certification renewal period and only once during each biennial registration period.
Any course approved for the education requirements for persons certified under Chapter 468, Part XII, Florida Statutes, shall be accepted for continuing education for renewal for persons who are certified under Part XII and who are certified or registered contractors under Chapter 489, Part I, Florida Statutes”.
“Additionally General, Building, Residential, Roofing, Specialty Structure, and Glass and Glazing contractors must complete one hour of Wind Mitigation Methodology as part of their required 14-hours.”

FLORIDA BOARD OF PROFESSIONAL ENGINEERS CONTINUING EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
CERTIFIED AND REGISTERED CONSTRUCTION CONTRACTORS – 14 Hours:
The State requires that Certified and Registered Contractors must complete 14 hours of continuing education during each two-year renewal period.
The 14 hours must include 1 hour of Business Practices, 1 hour of Laws and Rules, 1 hour of Workplace Safety, 1 hour of Workers’ Compensation and 1 hour of Advanced Building Code. Note: Additional requirement for General, Residential, Roofing, Specialty Structure and Glass and Glazing Contractors includes 1 hour of Wind Mitigation.
CERTIFIED AND REGISTERED ELECTRICAL CONTRACTORS – 11 Hours:
The State requires that the Certified and Registered Electrical Contractors must complete 11 hours of continuing education during each two-year renewal period.
The 11 hours must include 1 hour of Business Practices, 1 hour of Laws and Rules, 1 hour of Workplace Safety, 1 hour of Workers’ Compensation, 7 hours of Technical Courses to include – 1 hour of Advanced Building Code and 2 hours of False Alarm Prevention for all Certified Electrical Contractors who perform alarm work.
CERTIFIED AND REGISTERED ALARM CONTRACTORS – 7 Hours:
The State requires that Certified and Registered Alarm Contractors must complete 7 hours of continuing education during each two-year renewal period.
The 7 hours must include 1 hour of Business Practices, 1 hour of Laws and Rules, 1 hour of Workplace Safety, 1 hour of Workers’ Compensation, 2 hours of False Alarm Prevention, 1 hour of Technical to include 1 hour of Advanced Building Code.
CERTIFIED AND REGISTERED SPECIALTY CONTRACTORS – 7 Hours:
The State requires that Certified and Registered Specialty Contractors must complete 7 hours of continuing education during each two-year renewal period.
The 7 hours must include 1 hour of Business Practices, 1 hour of Laws and Rules, 1 hour of Workplace Safety, 1 hour of Workers’ Compensation, 1 hour of Technical to include 1 hour of Advanced Building Code, and 2 hours of General Courses.
HOME INSPECTORS – 14 Hours:
The State requires that Florida Home Inspectors must complete 14 hours of continuing education during each two-year renewal period.
Of the 14 hours, at least 2 hours must be in Hurricane Mitigation and 12 hours of General Courses.
ENGINEERS:
The State requires that all licensed Professional Engineers in Florida must complete 18 hours of continuing education during each two-year renewal period.
Rule 61G15-22.001 F.A.C, requires that the 18 hours must include 1 hour of Florida Laws and Rules, 1 hour of Professional Ethics, 4 hours of Area of Practice and 12 hours of any topic pertinent to the practice of Engineering.
Note: Professional Engineers are no longer required to self-report or have the Provider report the completion to the State. The State will randomly select engineers to verify they have taken the required hours. Just keep a copy of the State approved Certificate our website will send you upon completion of each course when you click on Send after you take the exam at the end of each course.
